Hello and welcome to your first class. My name is Jurgen, and I created the Financial Industry Business Data Model (FIB-DM).
So, this is about the new Microsoft cloud-based platform for commercial licensees to access and download the FIBO Data Model and educational materials.
The FIB-DM deliverable for commercial licensees has 94 files. There are the Data Model and PowerPoints, diagrams in Scalable Vector Graphics, Excel reports, tools, and PDFs. Altogether, 145 MB.
This is an overview of the new distribution channel and the licensed content for:
Current licensees with a maintenance model update agreement. New licensees receiving their first FIBO Data Model and financial institutions that want to learn more about the FIB-DM deliverable.
Note: The open-source FIB-DM core version is on FIB-DM.com – not on SharePoint.
Well, my challenge is intellectual property security. International copyright laws protect FIB-DM, and the United States patent #1238939 covers products. In other words, Data Models made with the patented Configurable
Ontology to Data model Transformation (CODT).
However, a small Vermont business cannot enforce its IP rights globally. Therefore, the full commercial data model and education resources are locked up, with access limited to paid licenses.
Frankly, the old email delivery process was quite cumbersome and restrictive, requiring secure download links, passwords, and encrypted ZIP directories.
The solution is Microsoft SharePoint. Users download the licensed assets at their convenience: individual files and folders, or everything in one go.
As it was before, you have one to three named employees at your financial institution, identified by their work email. And they have access to SharePoint.
However, Microsoft Online handles the end-to-end access security. So there are no more encrypted files, Email links, and passwords. The model and education materials are on the Microsoft cloud rather than hidden on the Jayzed Services website.
Rollout and migration: The FIB-DM SharePoint is in production. Just last week, the latest licensee, a Canadian bank, downloaded the deliverables from the FIB-DM SharePoint.
New licensees use the SharePoint, and licensees with maintenance will have access to the next data model update (2026-Q3), probably by the end of this month (October).
The class shows how to sign in to FIB-DM SharePoint and provides an overview of the educational materials. We take FRO Bank as an example.
Just really fast about the old process:
The designated FRO Bank technical contact, Erika, and her backup colleagues, John and Young-Hee, receive a secure email with 6 download links. Secure means that the file name and location are obscured.
ZIP directories are encrypted, and John, Young-Hee, and Erica receive a password in a separate email. Then, to decrypt the ZIP file, they would need 7-Zip or any Commercial archiving tool like WinZip.
Of course, this is cumbersome, especially for users with maintenance, who have to go through it every three months.
Furthermore, sometimes we have new educational materials, like this class here, this PowerPoint, released independently of the quarterly schedule.
There’s no convenient way to distribute individual new PowerPoints or update Excel files.
SharePoint access and sign-in:
You have a dedicated FIB-DM SharePoint site for your licensed Financial Institution. For FRO Bank, this means Erika can only see John and Young-Hee – no other FIB-DM licensees.
Likewise, the FRO Bank users remain confidential.
A Microsoft SharePoint or Jayzed sends Erica and her colleagues a message containing the site link. Typically, the site name is FIB-DM for FRO, and the site URL is FIB-DM – number 4 -and the bank.
Microsoft 365 manages access to the cloud and other resources through your user account email.
There are three scenarios after you access the FIB-DM SharePoint or any other cloud resource:
Number one, this is the most likely scenario: you already logged in at work to your Microsoft account. And the FIB-DM SharePoint page opens without further verification.
That’s what happened to the Canadians. We had a kickoff last week, and I had planned to walk them through the process of accessing SharePoint.
When the call opened, they were already done; they downloaded everything themselves and even migrated the model to ERWin already.
If you’re not already logged into your Microsoft account, then MS Online prompts you to log in. So then you just enter your work email and Microsoft password.
In the unlikely event that your email is not a Microsoft account, then Microsoft will email you a temporary login code.
Yeah. This is what you see when you click on your SharePoint link:
The FIB-DM Client site, in this case FIB-DM for FRO Bank. And the homepage has the latest licensed version. For FRO, it is 2026-Q2.
There are only two more folders: the Archive folder, which would contain previous versions of the FIBO Data Model.
And here’s the Training folder. That’s a document library, and the only place actually on FIB-DM SharePoint where you can modify documents and upload documents.
We use that in the training. You can upload any exercises, and I would upload if there were follow-up questions that require a more detailed answer.
Now, the folder here is actually a link to another SharePoint. When we click on it, it opens FIB-DM Resources Master.
And here in the Releases library, the 2026-Q2 folder.
And here’s one useful hint: The download button that’s on every page. What this does in Microsoft SharePoint is pack everything into a ZIP. And you can download. This is what most people do. A new release comes out; you download everything.
In every release, there are 6 folders. These are the same as the previous 6 ZIP directories. We have Articles, we have the Data Model, Diagrams, Presentations, Release reports, and Tools.
Now, most people start with the data model. So, when we click on it here, we see the latest data model. It’s a PowerDesigner Conceptual Data Model file. There’s only one file in this folder.
Here is some pre-announcement: Sadly, SAP has decided to sunset PowerDesigner by the end of next year.
Soon, this folder will also have an ERWin file. So, FIB-DM is moving to ERWin. During the transition in 2027, there will be two models in this folder.
Here’s an overview of the education materials.
We take pride in the 100% transparency of the FIB-DM offering. More than 4,000 users downloaded the open-source, 1000-entity Core model that was derived from an older FIBO version.
The quarterly Release report lists all 3,000 entities and 250 data model packages (or subject areas in ERWin) with their definitions.
So, there is no pig in a poke.
The FIB-DM Training course is on YouTube, and the presentations are available as PDFs on the website.
Now, for commercial Licencees, SharePoint provides the original MS Office files.
Your Intellectual Property License Agreement (the IPLA) lifts the Jayzed website’s Terms of Use restrictions.
You are entitled to and encouraged to customize the education materials for internal use, including rebranding it, reusing text, and lifting of images, as long as they remain within your organization.
Please do not share any FIB-DM SharePoint files with third parties.
Yeah, let’s look at the um other education materials here. The first: Articles.
There are 4 PDF files. That content is identical to what you have for the public on the FIB-DM website. The first three are actually a deep dive into the model. That is suggested reading after the class.
They have the transformation considerations. Data Model hierarchies. And here, this is a core one. How Object Properties are transformed in the data model into Associative Entities rather than mere relationships.
And then finally, here, the FIB-DM Fundamental Concepts PDF. That is a supplement to Semantics for Finance Users, and also for scoping.
By the way, when you click on it and open it, SharePoint launches a document viewer. And here we see here, it opens, in this case, a PDF viewer.
The file has additional information. It shows the FIB-DM Concepts. Let me close this. And now, let’s go back.
Diagrams: Likewise. If we open the diagrams folder. There are some 70 diagrams in here. These are also the same SVG files that are in the public. So here, SharePoint is merely a convenient way to download everything.
And again, if you click on a file in SharePoint, Microsoft opens, in this case, an SVG viewer, and you can look at the diagram.
And now back to the next one here. Here are the Presentations.
This also contains the Education Path. That is the flow we follow in the training course. And then there are 9 presentations.
Again, when you open it, you will see the MS Online of the presentation. You can launch it and view it online.
Yeah, here’s a Release folder.
These are basically for model validation. Here we can see the PowerDesigner model check parameters that I did for the release. And you can see the output: Okay, no errors or warnings.
And then here is the report created from the model on SharePoint. This one here, you’re probably familiar with it. This is the same release report that is published on the FIB-DM website. No. So you have the Entities and the Packages.
The difference is that on FIB-DM there’s only read permission for the workbook and a PDF printout of it. But with the commercial license, you can modify and work with the workbook. Same here; we see the Packages.
And here are the Release reports. That has additional model reports. In particular here, we see the package and entity Extended Attributes; we see Deprecated Entities.
This is important. You should not use the deprecated entity, but rather its equivalent.
It shows entity attributes; it shows the inheritances; and here, “top secret,” it shows the Relationships. The data model relationships that connect the Associative entity to the Base entity.
This is highly confidential because it would enable an unauthorized third party to reverse-engineer the FIBO Data Model.
Finally, this one is very popular: a list of diagrams. So, with a new release, the model file does not contain all 70 FIB-DM diagrams. You know the model would become way too big and overwhelm the modeling tool.
So typically, I include maybe a dozen diagrams of the current and previous release. So if you have the new model and you look for “Where are the diagrams?” This list shows you, and then you can find them in PowerDesigner or ERWin.
Yeah, and finally, here is the last folder, Tools.
There are two files in here. Here is the Visio file of the 20 Concepts. That is if hopefully after the training, after “Semantics for Finance Users” and “Scoping,” you learned about the Object Management Group’s concepts and you want to create your own Concept Maps.
So this Visio has the stencils, and also the original Visio diagrams of everything that you see on the FIB-DM website and the Education materials.
And then here is another tool.
The Navigator is a critical tool for scoping, and there is a class about it. What it does is help you when you scope to find a Path. The query path, the connection from one entity to another.
Yeah, this concludes our overview of the model.
Summary and conclusion: The old email delivery process was rigid and cumbersome. The new FIB-DM SharePoint offers a flexible and convenient way for commercial licensees to access and download their deliverables.
I showed you how to access SharePoint and gave you an overview of its content.
Here are some links to the public training materials. On FIB-DM, we have the data model resources, and on Jayzed Support, there’s the PowerPoint deck for this class. Finally on YouTube, you have the complete FIB-DM Training course.
Thank you for watching. I hope you will like the SharePoint.
